Geotechnical Laboratory Technician
Geotechnical Laboratory Technician serves as a key collaborator within the organisation, working alongside engineers, project managers and the laboratory team to ensure accurate and timely geotechnical data is provided for projects. By effectively coordinating with these stakeholders, the technician helps facilitate informed decision-making and contributes to the seamless progression of projects from conception through to completion.
The key responsibilities and core activities of Geotechnical Laboratory Technician is as follows:
Sample Preparation and Testing- Prepare geotechnical samples for testing in accordance with standardised procedures.- Conduct basic geotechnical tests such as Atterberg limits, grain size analysis, specific gravity, unconsolidated undrained triaxial compression and others.
Data Collection and Documentation- Accurately record test data and observations in the lab's information management system.- Maintain clear and organised records of test procedures and results.
Equipment Maintenance- Perform routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.- Troubleshoot and resolve minor equipment issues, escalating complex problems to the manager.
Safety and Compliance- Adhere to safety protocols within the laboratory environment to prevent accidents and injuries- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and company policies during the handling and disposal of test samples.
Collaboration and Communication- Work closely with the laboratory team to ensure efficient lab operations.- Communicate effectively with the Laboratory Manager and peers, providing updates on lab activities and progress.
Continuous Improvement- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by providing feedback on testing processes and laboratory workflows.
Requirement:
- Minimum Diploma in Civil, Geotechnical Engineering or related field; or equivalent experience in geotechnical laboratory testing.- Minimum of 1 year of experience in geotechnical laboratory testing.- Relevant experience in ISO 17025 accreditation by Komite Akreditasi Nasional (KAN) will be advantage.- Laboratory testing, familiar with ASTM and ISO 17892 test standards.- Relevant experience in ISO 17025 accreditation by Komite Akreditasi Nasional (KAN) will be advantage.- LIMS experience will be an added advantage.- Strong technical proficiency in laboratory testing and analysis of geotechnical materials.- Familiarity with MS office. Proficiency in Excel VBA will be advantageous.- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.- Effective communication skills, both written and oral.- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.- Fluent written and verbal English proficiency.
