Program Overview
Land & Carbon Lab (LCL) is WRI's premier hub for geospatial data, analysis, and monitoring of the world's land and its natural ecosystems. Our data and monitoring solutions, which include the Global Forest Watch platform, exist to help accelerate implementation and financing of nature-based solutions worldwide. LCL has three main offers: (1) innovation in open geospatial data for land and carbon monitoring, (2) spatial intelligence to support NBS policy and target tracking, and (3) tailored tools that help businesses, governments, civil society organizations, and local communities make data-driven decisions. The program partners with leading scientists and technologies to curate best-in-class geospatial data on land use, land use change, and associated carbon stocks and flows. It also partners with decision-makers and local organizations that support a transformation of the complex geospatial data into actionable information.
Land and Carbon Lab' objectives are to 1) Create, curate, and serve as concierge to the world's most trusted source of geospatial data and analysis about global land cover and land use change and associated carbon emissions and removals; and 2) Design, deploy, and scale monitoring solutions for target end "users" (i.e., those whose decisions & behaviors we aim to influence to advance Produce, Protect, Restore strategies). At WRI Indonesia, the Land & Carbon Lab program falls under the Agriculture, Forest, and Land Use (AFOLU) cluster, Forest and Peat Monitoring sub-cluster.
Job Highlight
The Communications Specialist for Forest and Peat Monitoring will support AFOLU cluster at WRI Indonesia, focusing on projects under Forest and Peat Monitoring sub-cluster by implementing communications strategies, managing multiple communications channels (such as website, blog, publications, media relations, and events), and engage with relevant stakeholders. The Communications Specialist will play a crucial role in the implementation of aspects of strategic, disciplined communications and engagement campaign to achieve the goals and objectives of the Forest and Monitoring sub-cluster as well as the Land & Carbon Lab program. The Communications Specialist will utilize media, marketing, technical and persuasive writing, among others, to develop, execute and manage social and traditional communications strategies that advance the goals of WRI Indonesia. 
The ideal candidate will have exceptional communication skills, sharp analytical thinking, and be able to demonstrate their ability to effectively engage with various national, sub-national, and international stakeholders.
What You Will Do
Coordinate with the Senior Communications Coordinator for AFOLU, Communications Manager, Forest and Peat Monitoring Senior Manager, and work closely with Land & Carbon Lab Communications team in Washington D.C. and other parts of the globe.Implement communications strategies pertaining to the forest and peat monitoring. The implementation of communication strategies comprises of but is not limited to communications materials development, events management, media engagement, conferences, video development, news opportunities, writing, and social media engagement.Support the Senior Communications Coordinator and Program Managers in responding to program needs, identify strategic communications feedback to advance project's impact;Support in the development of narrative and messaging that WRI Indonesia delivers at the program and project levelsSupport the Senior Communications Coordinator, Program Managers and other relevant staff in developing clear advocacy/ campaign strategies for each thematic sector at all levels and ensure that advocacy plans throughout the program are compatible, consistent and effectively delivered.Develop and implement creative campaigns to increase awareness and improve stakeholders' participation towards Land & Carbon Lab and WRI Indonesia's Forest and Peat Monitoring initiatives. Develop ideas, write, and edit a variety of internal and external materials, such as blog posts, media materials, newsletters, op-eds, website content, and more.Support the maintenance of WRI Indonesia's websiteProvide communications support for events that fall under the Land & Carbon Lab and Forest and Peat Monitoring initiatives at WRI Indonesia.Take photographs and videos of local events and work with professional photographer or videographer as needed.Support media engagement opportunities including press releases, media briefings, and media enquiries.Monitor news coverage.Documentation for all communications activities under the Forest and Peat Monitoring sub-cluster.Engage with relevant stakeholders including government officials, local NGOs, and the Global team.Engage with third-party vendors and consultants.Travel if needed. What You Will Need
Ideal candidate will have bachelor's or master's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or other relevant fields;Professional experience of min. 3 years in communications;International experience or prior work in a global organization preferred;Experience in social media management and how to use it to impact audiences;Experience in working with reporters or members of the media (and established media contacts) preferred;Experience and proven ability to communicate effectively with Indonesian government officials preferred;Interest and experience in forestry, energy, or other natural resources-related issues in Indonesia preferred;Articulate, versatile, highly skilled writer with professional writing experience (professional clips or writing samples preferred);Ability to work effectively within a tight deadline in a fast-paced office environment, both independently and as part of a global team;Excellent inter-personal communication skills, including the ability to encourage collaboration with other programs, international offices, and partners;Experience in working with a content management system (CMS) preferred;Ability to think creatively and collaboratively about all elements of communications work;Visual skills, such as photography, graphic design, and Adobe Photoshop are desirable;Adaptable to rapidly changing priorities and able to manage multiple deadlines and deliver high quality work products;Business proficiency in both Bahasa Indonesia and English, with a strong emphasis on written and spoken communications (additional language skills are welcome);Legally able to work in Indonesia. Deliverables
Monthly consolidated report on delivery, achievement and lessons learned. Other deliverables include but not limited to:
Project's communications strategies development and implementation report Project's activities implementation including the analysis report of each activity. Minutes of Meeting from the stakeholders' engagements undertaken during the course of the projectCommunications materials development such as video (in coordination with third party), press release, blog, op-eds, website content, slide deck, as assignedDraft social media content, as assigned Durations
This position is expected to start immediately with contract period span up to 31 December 2023.
Terms of Payment
Daily rate-based candidate with maximum of 18 (eighteen) working days per month.
Contract Arrangement
Individual consultancy contract (Part-time, limited term)
