Job Description
The Geophysicist is one of the members of a survey team and is responsible for all aspects relating to the quality of the recorded geophysical data, the completeness of the survey, and the interpretation of the geophysical records. He is also responsible for writing the final report and overseeing the production of charts, in coordination with the Party Chief and Data Centre Manager.
**Responsibilities**:
- To advise and assist during the installation of the bathymetric and geophysical equipment on the survey vessel- To be responsible for checking that the geophysical equipment is operating to the required standard, and if necessary performing calibration checks. To fully understand the principals of operation of the various geophysical systems in use- To oversee the recording of geophysical data and to operate as necessary the on-line graphic recorders to ensure that the equipment remains tuned and the records remain of good quality. Should the quality deteriorate to an extent that accurate data interpretation is not possible, then he is to advise the Party Chief accordingly- To observe the recovery of all seabed samples, to analyse, log, classify, test and photograph the samples- To review all the on-line bathymetric and geophysical records, to identify any anomalies that may affect the suitability of the site, with regard to the purpose for which it has been selected. All such anomalies will be brought to the attention of the Party Chief- To perform a systematic interpretation of the analogue or digitally processed geophysical records onboard the survey vessel, as may be directed by the Party Chief- To ensure that all digitally recorded geophysical data is fully backed up, where this is practical, and that all bathymetric and geophysical records are correctly labelled, boxed, and the contents of each box itemised on the appropriate form for transmittal of field data- To advise on the processing parameters for digital data and oversee the initial tests and final geophysical sections- To carry out a systematic interpretation of geophysical records, produce the necessary text/ figures/ tables for the written report, oversee the compilation of charts, and check their final correctness and completeness. To be performed in co-ordination with the Party Chief and the Data Centre Manager- Actively participate in Operations, Quality Assurance and HSE group meetings.
**Requirements**:
- A broad-based education in Geoscience (Degree level in Geology or Geophysics)- A minimum of 3 years of experience in the offshore survey industry- Practical field experience of marine geophysical survey work including acquisition QC and interpretation of echosounder, side scan sonar, seismic profiler, multichannel seismic and magnetometer data- Very strong communication skills with an excellent command of written and spoken English- Experienced user of common interpretation and data processing software packages in the industry such as IHS Kingdom, SonarWiz, CODA, RadexPRO, Oasis Montaj, etc.Disclaimer for recruitment agencies:
