Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)**Main Purpose of Job**:The jobholder, working closely with the Second Secretary Economist, will support the UK's engagement with Indonesia on a range of fascinating and high-profile policy issues, including supporting economic and financial sector reform and G20 financial issues. They will supply regular high-quality economic analysis on Indonesia to a range of UK government departments. They will also use their economic analytical skills to support the expansion of two-way trade and investment between the UK and Indonesia. The jobholder will work closely with a range of teams in the Embassy as well as with UK Government departments in London. They will need to build and utilise an extensive network of local contacts in government, the private sector, multilateral development banks, and other non-government actors.**What will the Jobholder be Expected to Achieve**:- Monitor and report on on economic developments in Indonesia, making recommendations as necessary- Co-lead on HMG engagement with Indonesia on economic issues and financial services cooperation, including working on the senior officials UK-Indonesia Financial Dialogue.- Advise senior members of the Embassy, high-level UK Government visitors, and UK businesses on the implications of economic developments in Indonesia and providing input to bilateral dialogues.- Provide input into broader efforts to boost UK-Indonesia trade and investment, by contributing to: the work of the UK Department for Business and Trade (DBT); working on market access issues; briefing British businesses; and, promoting UK economic strengths to Indonesian investors, including on Islamic finance.- Facilitate successful economic related ministerial and senior official visits to and from the UK.- Build strong relationships with the Government of Indonesia, Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs), academia, other external actors, and UK government departments (HMT, DBT, etc). Identify opportunities for UK-Indonesia collaboration that will drive forward HMG policy priorities and promote increased trade & investment between markets.- Deliver impact on our low carbon and climate change work, particularly in the areas of sustainable finance.- Support the development and delivery of the new ASEAN Economic Integration Programme.**Resources Managed (Staff and Expenditure)**:- Manage one Country Based Staff at AO levelEssential qualifications, skills and experience- Minimum of a degree in economics, or a degree with a strong economics component- Strong understanding of the Indonesian financial services market, with an interest in specific sub sectors, including trade policy, insurance, sustainable finance, Islamic finance, and Fintech- The ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders- Excellent written and spoken English is essential. This will be tested during the recruitment process.
