Bloomberg News is one of the biggest financial and business news organizations in the world. We lead the way in breaking news and providing analysis on financial markets, from real-time coverage through to in-depth enterprise. We are known for our quality, accuracy and ability to deliver news investors can use. It's what keeps us inventing and re-inventing, all the time.
We are seeking a motivated financial markets reporter to join our team of journalists and editors in Bloomberg's Jakarta bureau.
It's a diverse and dynamic beat. From monitoring the central bank's influence on bonds and the rupiah to tracking the commodities boom in stocks and scrutinizing distressed debt situations, you have an eye for detail and local-market color as well as an ability to tell big-picture stories to the global audience.
Each day you'll pounce on moves and sizeable trades, track market pricing and explain what these developments mean.
You'll be in regular contact with traders, brokers and Indonesian investors, and you'll use that network to break and explain news for readers around the world.
You have a keen understanding of the interplay between markets, politics and economics. As a team player, you will also collaborate freely with our team of local reporters as well as a network of market experts across Asia and beyond.
**We'll trust you to**:
- Generate and craft concise, on-the-spot stories about Indonesia's financial markets, capturing the elements of both "what's happening" and "what it means" - against the backdrop of local and global trends
- Cultivate a broad network of investors, traders and other market participants
- Identify and interpret Indonesia's place in broader emerging-market trends in stocks, currencies and rates
**You'll need to have**:
- At least 3 years of experience in financial journalism
- A collaborative team spirit, the drive to innovate and a strong work ethic
- A proven track record for breaking news on beat coverage in finance, economics or markets or generating unique and exclusive market reporting and analysis
- The ability to tap into a wide variety of contacts, ranging from the biggest investors and traders to government officials and policy makers
- Work as a key member of the Jakarta bureau, including doing bureau shifts
- Proficiency in both spoken and written English, with the ability to quickly produce accurate and engaging copy
- Demonstrated continuous career growth within an organization
**We'd also like to see**:
- Fluency in or a strong grasp of Bahasa Indonesia would be an advantage
- An understanding of broad financial market mechanics; specific knowledge of equity, currency and/or bond markets is highly desirable
