ASEAN comprises ten (10) countries in Southeast Asia. It was proclaimed a Community through the "Kuala Lumpur Declaration on ASEAN 2025: Forging Ahead Together", signed by the Leaders of ASEAN Member States at the 27th ASEAN Summit in 2015. The ASEAN 2025 calls for the ASEAN Community to forge ahead together, and to work towards building a community that is politically cohesive, economically integrated and socially responsible.The ASEAN Secretariat was established in 1976 by the Foreign Ministers of ASEAN with the basic function of providing greater efficiency in the coordination of ASEAN organs and for more effective implementation of ASEAN projects and activities. It is also envisioned to be the nerve center of a strong and confident ASEAN Community that is globally respected for acting in full compliance with its Charter and in the best interest of its people.**Remuneration and Benefits**:**Responsibilities**- Reporting to the Assistant Director/Head of External Economic Relations Division, the ACAFTA Senior Coordinator shall be responsible for:**1. Negotiation and meeting support**- Coordinate the work of the ACAFTA TNC and relevant subsidiary bodies and reporting to SEOM-Canada and AEM-Canada.- Provide strategic and policy advice in the course of negotiations and meetings, including by contributing to the development of negotiating strategies and finding common ground and areas for compromises during the course of negotiations.- Preparation of the agenda, concept note, recommendation paper, report, or statement of the meetings for adoption at the ACAFTA TNC and related meetings.- Support the development of the Work Plan for the ASEAN-Canada FTA negotiations.- ort the scheduling/ meeting arrangements of the ACAFTA TNC, as well as the travel/ participation of least developed countries of AMS.**2. Programme and project coordination**- Coordinate the development and implementation of economic cooperation projects/ capacity building activities provided by Canada to ASEAN that are related to ACAFTA negotiations, e.g. EDM, CTIF.- Support the reporting on economic cooperation projects/ capacity building activities related to ACAFTA negotiations.**3. Public communications**- Respond to enquiries from researchers/private sectors/public sectors.- Prepare the communication material documents including press release, joint media statements, public report, as necessary.**4. Undertake other ASEAN Secretariat tasks as required**- Prepare the necessary documents for the meetings of SEOM-Canada, AEM-Canada, ACAFTA TNC and other meetings as required.- Provide other ASEAN Secretariat support, as required and if available.**Qualifications**- Advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent degree), preferably in the area of international economics, international trade, or international trade and investment law, with not less than three (3) years progressive experience in relevant area.- Bachelor's degree with relevant combination of academic qualifications, and six (6) years of qualifying experience, may be considered.- Experience in trade negotiations and in-depth knowledge in one of the following fields: trade in goods, rules of origin, trade in services, investment, digital trade, trade and sustainability, competition policy, or government procurement.- Experience in policy research, advocacy and project management.- Strong strategic and analytical skills.- Strong administrative capabilities.- Proven ability to write and develop ideas in a structured, logical, concise, and efficient manner.- Understanding of, and keen interest in, international and regional issues, and knowledge of and commitment to ASEAN ideals.- High-level interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills, including experience in cross-cultural environment and international settings.- Proven ability to develop and maintain sound working relationships with government representatives, public and private sector organisations and other stakeholders.- Meticulous and proven ability for accuracy under pressure and adherence to deadlines.- Commitment to teamwork and collaborative work practices.- Excellent command of English, written and spoken.- Competency in computer skills including with adequate knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook.
